Conferința SACR 2012

States are ever changing collections of practices, projects and effects. While anthropological analyses of the state are relatively new in the history of the discipline, the pervasive neoliberal projects prompted various researches on understanding of the transformation of state hegemonies. The conference seeks to tease out various ways, sites and methodologies of analyzing states and the effects of what Elizabeth Dunn calls the „doctrines of flexibility”. What kind of forms of sovereignities are born within the neo-liberal projects of the state? How are they translated in economic and political life by individuals and various social formations? What are the neoliberal mechanisms of creating new subjectivities? How do various individual and collective subjects cope with changes prompted by state transformation? Submissions may, but are not required to address any of the following topics: legal and illegal practices, state effects and the limits of the state, state and gender, hegemonies, spatiality and the state, mobility and the state.
