Birkbeck, University of London and Photography + (Con) Text are pleased to announce an international conference to be held in London on 6-8 September 2018.
Building on the conference Photography in Academic Research, an event organised by Photography + (Con) Text at UCL in September 2016, the theme of this international conference is the opportunities and challenges facing photography in this post-truth era. Through roundtables, research panels and networking opportunities, this event will promote collaboration and exchange between social researchers and practitioners who use photography in their research and practice. It will serve as a space for photography, encouraging its uses, analyses and practices in social research and art, expanding the possibilities of photography beyond its current observational and illustrative uses within mainstream social research.
This event is organised by Birkbeck’s Departments of Cultures and Languages, Geography and History of Art, the Derek Jarman Lab, the Centre for Iberian and Latin and American Visual Studies and the Photo History Research Centre with the support of the Birkbeck Institute for Social Research and Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities.
Contributions are welcome from researchers, practitioners and artists working in all fields such as education, social research, the arts, museums, archives and anyone who is engaged with the analysis and the production of photography.
The call for submissions will open on 7 December 2017.
